Future Cities Canada is a national collaborative accelerating innovation to transform cities for the benefit of us all. Through the work of a multidisciplinary team, a quarter of the acre Don Valley Brick Works park and post-industrial site is being redeveloped as an active, environmentally based community centre.

The project was initialized by Evergreen, a Toronto non-profit organization dedicated to creating programs that reconnect city communities with local natural systems.

The massive grounds are incised with industrial quarries and are both a heritage site and a brownfield. In its new incarnation, the area will serve as a catalyst for new ideas on relationships between nature, individuals, and cities. The plan addresses a need for higher site porosity as a means to create a free-flowing system of sustainable components in, around, and through the area.
