Think about it. Can you think of a place anywhere in the world where there is systemic oppression of the white community by any nonwhite community? Often when we talk about race, we only go skin deep, when in actuality it is brain deep, deep in our subconscious where our belief system lies. So, what are some tangible ways that members of the Black community maintain oppressive limitations on each other? I can think of two for starters: 1.
Economic flight: A very relevant concept in recognition of the th commemoration of the bombing of Black Wall Street. Today, a dollar spends 28 days circulating in the Asian community; 19 days in the Jewish community; 17 days in predominately WASP communities; and 7 days in Hispanic communities.
A dollar circulates for only 6 hours in the Black community. In other words, when a Black person earns a dollar, it is typically not spent with a Black-owned business. Ninety-nine percent of our 1. Blacks spend less money in Black-owned businesses than other racial and ethnic groups spend in businesses owned by members of their groups. How do we as members of the Black racial demographic community, justify our own statistically collective treatment of each other in the two above mentioned areas involving skin color and economic prejudice?
In view of these two self-limiting behaviors alone, are we not maintaining our last place position in the racial hierarchy created by the European? Can any government policy overcome the disparities that we are placing on ourselves?

For example, there are only three minority coaches in the team NFL — in which almost 70 percent of the players are black. Racism is when people of color are locked up for decades for weed charges but a white Stanford swimmer was sentenced to a measly six months in jail after being convicted of sexual assault. Racism is when a black man visits a day care center and is told there is a six-month waiting list to get his daughter in but his white female friend speaks to the same woman a few hours later on the same day to get her infant daughter in and is accepted.
Yep, that happened to me. I could go on all day. So when someone tells you that you will never understand what racism is like, Jody, you should rejoice, because racism is demoralizing, painful and exhausting. Take the word of a black guy who has endured decades of this. I just want empathy and understanding. Hear the stories of people of color and learn from them.
Then when you see racism in your community, fight like hell to destroy it. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is approaching, and we still have a long way to go to achieve his dream of racial equality. The radio segment, like its namesake Netflix series, is what White uses to communicate her feelings about microaggressions that she and other black students experience at the fictional Winchester University. Since Dear White People is equal parts humor and seriousness, flipping the script would mean that the race jokes would be on black people.

The traditional description in Merriam-Webster describes race as,. We often point out racism based on discriminatory acts without acknowledging what racism is in its fullness.
This political and social and, I'd add, economic reality of black people is what renders them unable to oppress white people in the way that they are oppressed.
This means that the exclusionary things black people are often accused of being racist for doing — creating a " Black Lives Matter " movement, attending historically black colleges , having a " Black Girls Rock " event — could never be racist.
